Voluntourism, a hot topic. Or is it still the elephant in the room?
Voluntourism is growing as a concept. A volunteering holiday can be bought online in just a few clicks, but the impact of your work isn't necessarily what you expect it to be. While social media makes it easy to showcase your benevolent actions, we ask ourselves, does volunteering still revolve around doing good, or is the industry built simply to make you feel good? In this roundabout we discuss the topic with a bigger focus on sustainability and the growing volunteering industry. Our question: what is the key to ensure that a volunteering opportunity has a positive impact on the community.
